United StatesLoop Chemicals is developing chemical looping technology for clean, local ammonia production. Its small, decentralized plants are designed to sit within about 30 miles of farms and run on renewable feedstock and energy, cutting the carbon and transport costs of today's large fossil-fuel plants.

A cyclic chemical looping process that produces ammonia at about 20 bar, compared with roughly 200 bar for Haber-Bosch. It uses a nitrided carrier material instead of a catalyst, which makes it economical at small scale and suited to local renewable hydrogen and nitrogen inputs. Targets include roughly 50 to 60% per-pass conversion, lower levelized cost of ammonia, and near-zero carbon intensity.
