About

Helix gives heavy industry control over its own feedstocks through electrochemistry. Its electrochemical reforming technology converts blast furnace waste gas on-site into CO for direct reinjection into the furnace, eliminating the need for capture, transport, and conversion infrastructure. This reduces reliance on fossil fuel coking coal in steelmaking, lowers emissions, and improves margins for blast furnace steel producers.

Electrochemical Reforming System

Electrochemical Reforming System

A modular, on-site electrochemical stack that converts blast furnace waste gas (CO2) directly into CO for reinjection into the furnace, along with H2O electrolysis producing H2 and O2. This eliminates the traditional four-step carbon capture, transport, and conversion process, cutting costs and enabling steel producers to reduce fossil fuel dependency. With 33% syngas injection, blast furnace production costs drop from $391 to $377 per ton Fe, increasing margins by 35-60%. The system offers the lowest CapEx of any green steel approach at $678/ton annual green Fe capacity for a 200 MW commercial plant.
